New York/New York Hotel and Casino Las Vegas

When you see the hotel you cannot imagine how they transformed the New York Skyline into a hotel right on Las Vegas Blvd and then you realize they drove it up the Brooklyn Bridge and right past the Statue of Liberty. The detail that was put into the design of this resort is fabulously Las Vegas. They did get one thing wrong though; the rooms are much larger than a New York City apartment. Apparently, out west people cannot understand city living. If you want to have a drink in Times Square, ride a roller coaster or have a large deli sandwich they have it at New York/New York

What you might like at the New York/New York Hotel and Casino:

The Village eateries have a ton of great food and allow you to stroll through the sidewalks of New York. If you want to have a loud evening of dancing and hollering walk over to Coyote Ugly where the girls dance on the tables and the place gets packed. If you’re in the mood for some adult entertainment see Zumanity the Cirque du Soleil show which is unlike anything you have ever witnessed. Also, if you're into singing in public at the top of your lungs, hit the Dueling Pianos at the Bar at Times Square.

What you might not like at the New York/New York Hotel and Casino:
Sometimes the amount of children running around can be a nuisance and the crowds walking through the mezzanine level can be menacing. The rooms are not flashy and tend to be average at best.

My suggestion:
Hop on the roller coaster that circles the resort, the Manhattan Express, it will make you scream. Catch a game at the ESPN Zone and then have a drink at Nine Fine Irishmen.
If you want a good meal for an average price head to Il Fornaio where the Italian dishes seem to be getting better and the bread is enough to make you want to add an hour to you visit. The simple marinara sauce is perfect for a light meal and the pizza selections are very tasty.
If you need real Las Vegas entertainment, your best bet is Zumanity. But be prepared for the adult entertainment that is truly Las Vegas.

New Mega project on the strip

Bigger is, of course, better, and taller better still, and so Donald Trump has decided he can't possibly be outdone in such matters, and therefore his Trump International, two towers of hotel rooms and condos, will be 60-something stories when they open in late 2007 and 2008. The town giggles delightedly over all this display of architectural macho.
Less obvious to the naked eye, Mandalay Resorts agreed to a $4.8-billion takeover by MGM Mirage in 2005. The MGM MIRAGE-Mandalay Group now owns more than half the hotel rooms on the Strip. That's great news for shareholders but lousy news for visitors, who will find even fewer bargains on Strip rooms as competition dries up -- especially now that Harrah's and Caesars have also joined forces, leaving pretty much all the hotels on the Strip in about two sets of corporate hands. The new giant started off with a bang, with the destruction of the old Boardwalk Hotel, to be replaced by 2010 with the most ambitious project yet in a town full of 'em: Project CityCenter. Get this: It will contain, if it all comes to fruition, not just a 4,000-room megaresort and casino and all that goes with it (shops, restaurants, clubs), but also two 400-room boutique hotels (one being a part of the ultraluxe Mandarin Oriental chain), plus a couple thousand condo units and even more shopping, clubs, and restaurants separate from those belonging to the hotel complex.
Rivaling that project for its sheer size and scope will be Echelon Place, the $4-billion-plus development that is replacing the Stardust on the north end of the Strip. When it opens in 2010, it will have more than 5,300 rooms in four distinct properties -- Echelon Resort (a mega-casino style place) and three boutique hotels with high-cache names: Mondrian, Delano, and Shangri-La (a high-end Asian hotelier) -- plus the typical casino, meeting, shopping, restaurant, entertainment, and other facilities one would expect in a place that costs this much money.

Other big projects on the decks include the nearly $2-billion Cosmopolitan, which will include a Hyatt-branded and -run hotel and a big casino next to Bellagio when it is complete in late 2008; the W Hotel and Residences going up just east of the Strip on Harmon Avenue; and Las Ramblas, a $3-billion hotel, casino, and residential project with no less than George Clooney as one of the primary backers.

Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino Las Vegas

What to expect at the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino:
The Monte Carlo is what you could call the best moderately priced hotel in Las Vegas. Its location is ideal near the corner of Tropicana and Las Vegas Blvd. Its neighbors include New York/New York, MGM Grand and the Excalibur. This is the ideal resort for families as it offers fast food for all meals, an exciting and entertaining pool area and corridors that allow children to not have to walk through the casino. The property has a high end feel at mid-level prices.

What you might like at the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino:
Andres has an extensive wine list and good French food. For the children the food court gives them options and gives you flexibility and convenience. The lazy river in the pool area will provide a long restful afternoon. Low limit tables tend to survive here even on crowded weekends.

What you might not like at the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino:
There is a lack of Vegas flash at the Monte Carlo. There are no loud lounge acts to waste away a few hours and the general feeling can sometimes feel stale.

My suggestion:
If you have kids, this is the place to stay for the price, convenience and location. Next door at NY/NY they have a large arcade, across the street at the showcase mall there are movie theatres, a climbing wall, virtual reality games and the Excalibur a short walk away also has the midway area for children. Without children it is still a full service resort for a fraction of the cost of the big boys. You don’t encounter the large amount of kids like you would at the other kid friendly hotels.

Location:
Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino, 3770 Las Vegas Blvd. South, Las Vegas, NV 89109

Rooms at the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino:

3000+ rooms that are clean and comfortable and offer what is commonplace at Las Vegas hotels, a blow dryer, iron, safe and a 27’’ TV. They are not the most spacious but by no means are they small. Room rates start at $70.

Restaurants at the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino:., Restaurants, Blackstone's Steak House, Andres French Restaurant, Buffet, Market City, Dragon Noodle Co., Cafe and Monte Carlo Pub & Brewery.

Entertainment at the Monte Carlo Hotel and Casino: Lance Burton

Family Friendly Hotels in Las Vegas

Family Friendly Hotels in Las Vegas

Each of these hotels offer qualities that can help create a family friendly Las Vegas vacation. Generally, I would stay away from Downtown Las Vegas Hotels for kids as there is much less to entertain the children. Remember, Las Vegas is an adult playground so you might come in contact with smokers, drinkers and scantily clad party goers. If you can deal with that you should have a great time.

Best Value Off the Strip

Orleans beats everyone hands down

Very good for the price. Every room is bigger than average, has a king or two queen beds and a nice-sized sitting area. We don't mean a crummy little table and dining chairs, we mean comfy loungers, a sofa to call your own. The bathrooms are decent, but not fancy. There is enough space to spread out, or lie against the cool floor when you think you're going to puke. The toilet and tub/shower are in an enclosed room while the sink and hanger rack are open to the room. A really neat touch is the little window in the tub/shower that opens to the outside world, so you can yell at people in the parking lot while you bathe. We usually yell, "Come on up, the water's fine!" Rooms have hairdryers and coffeemakers (with only a little free coffee). TVs are plenty large, for after you lose all your money and want to watch Judge Judy. These rooms aren't for people who hate frilly stuff because they are awfully prissy. Rooms have hair dryers and irons. they also offer Internet hook-up available for those of us obsessed with our Fantasy sports leagues.
