Monte Carlo Hotel BURNS

A fire broke out on the upper levels of a 3,000-room Las Vegas hotel on Friday but there were no immediate reports of injuries and the blaze was quickly contained, US media reported.
The fire erupted at the Monte Carlo hotel on the Las Vegas Strip shortly before 11 am (1900 GMT) local time, sending thick black smoke and flames billowing from the roof.
By 12 pm the fire appeared to have been brought under control, with flames and smoke largely extinguished, footage on CNN showed. The cause of the fire was not known, reports said.
Earlier, flames could be seen spreading across the facade of two wings of the hotel as firefighters on the roof attempted to tackle the blaze.
Plumes of smoke could be seen for miles around, witnesses told AFP.
CNN reported that the fire was catching across the building's synthetic stucco but had not penetrated the interior of the hotel.
Guests at the resort -- one of the biggest on the Vegas strip -- were being evacuated to neighboring hotels, reports said.
The 32-story Monte Carlo, which sits on a sprawling 44-acre site, cost an estimated 344 million dollars to build and opened in 1996.
A fire at Las Vegas' MGM Grand Hotel and Casino in November 1980 left 87 people dead, and nearly 800 injured, the worst disaster in Nevada history.
